Early soap-makers in the Mediterranean began making Castile soap based on the Syrian/Middle East soap Aleppo Soap. Traditionally Aleppo Soap is made with Laurel Berry Oil and Olive Oil using a hot process. It’s believed that the scarcity of Laurel Berry Oil in the Mediterranean, Castile Soap, or Olive Oil soap was created.
Castile Soap made with Olive Oil and Lye Water. It can be scented or colored and still be considered Castile Soap as long as no other oils are used.
Today’s soap is made with Lemongrass Essential Oil. Lemongrass is a tropical, grassy plant used in cooking and herbal medicine. Extracted from the leaves and stalks of the lemongrass plant, lemongrass oil has a powerful, citrus scent.
